Dr. Susan Thomas is Assistant Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute for Development Research, Bombay. Her research has been in financial econometrics, specifically modeling volatility of prices, and analyzing aspects of market microstructure in Indian financial markets. She has worked on models for the Indian zero coupon yield curve, bond index construction and probability of default for Indian firms. Her work in pensions includes being a member on the Expert Group on investment guidelines and policy for the New Pension System set up by the pension’s regulator in October 2008, and being a member on the board of the State Bank of India's Pension Fund Management Company. She is a co-author of `India's Financial Markets: An insider's guide to how market's work''.

She holds degrees in civil engineering from IIT, Bombay and PhD in economics from University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
